You get two collections? We've always had just one. I've heard that the U.K. gets multiple mail deliveries each day, too. Where's that "envy" emoticon?

The big thing here is to do the same in one's urban area. Why leave home when you can clutter your own block?

No my post was ambiguous I see, every two weeks, bi-weekly, used to be once a week a few years back.

To be precise they collect domestic waste 1 week and recycling another, although the recycling rules are vary unclear. Garden waste is a separate thing that goes once a month but you have to pay extra for that on top of the local taxes.

The big thing here in Florida is to take your old furniture out in a rural area and dump it by the roadside. On a near daily basis I see furniture from every room in the house....beds, couches, computer desks, computers, TVs, kitchen cabinets...take your pick.

This is at epidemic proportions in the UK.

This down to a number of factors:

1) Charging businesses for using the dump
2) Apparently if you drive a large car like a SUV you count as business??
3) Closing Dumps or limiting the opening times
4) Limiting what domestic users can dispose of at the dump
5) The halved rate of domestic collection
6) They will not empty your bin if it is very full and the lid isi open.

So in short the fly-tipping epidemic in the UK is self inflicted by policy. But the response is to just put spy cameras to get the perpetrators rather than sort the root cause.

Sorry, you got me started...

Where we used to live in Ohio the trash would pick up ANYTHING that you set out by the road....appliances, furniture, electronics, building supplies, carpet, mattresses...you put it out there, they'd take it. If the pickers didn't get it first.

Suddenly, I am hungry.

You'd have had to come back when the place was open. It was late afternoon: bad for a meal, good for January light through west-facing windows across from the bar.
