I'm looking for the best and "smallest" monopod to use with a 1d Mark III and a 400 mm lens. I've tried to search and have found a few threads but nothing conclusive. Based on my searches, I'm leaning toward the Gitzo 5561T. Are there any smaller or better monopods than this one?

I use a Gitzo GM5540 for my 400. It is the best monopod I've used. I use a RRS clamp for added convenience.

I'll echo what Jim said. And I use the RRS MH-01 monopod head with it.

The 5540 and the RRS MH-01 would be the best monopod set up by a ways.

Agree about the Gitzo and MH-01 (the current version of the monopod is 5541).
