Hey everyone...it's been a while since I last posted but I was curious if I coudl get some help.

I have had a very successful sports photography business in North Carolina and wanting to move into something a little more "commercial". I am starting new business to do low and high altitude photography using an advanced RC vehicle AND 360 virtual tours here in North Carolina. I am marketing to contractors, building owners, commercial real estate, etc. The list of opportunities is endless.

I know there are a lot of creative people here on POTN and I need a new name for my business taking into consideration the following:

  • Remote Control Photography
  • 360 Spherical Photography
  • Business to Business Oriented
  • Flying
  • Sky
  • Spheres
Thanks in advance to everyone who helps me out. I am sure I will get the occasional goofy ones which I will accept but this is a serious pleas for assistance.

My theory is the best names are names that are unique. I mean, even made up words!

For example, words like: Kodak, Toshiba, Panasonic, some of the biggest names recognized world wide are made up words.

The best way to come up with a name is to brain map. Brain map is to write down any words that you want to describe what you do.. creative words.

For our company, for weddings, we had a whole list of words like "creative, imagination, karma, weddings, happy, focus, etc, etc." Eventually we stuck with Karma and Imagination were the ones that stood out the most.. we put them together, started using word play.. Karmagination was what we settled with but was too long so we shorted it to Karmagine.. and voila!

The positive thing about this is.. made up words have no competition on Google. If you put in 'Karmagine', we're the only site that will come up. When you come up with something, Google it to see if anyone else has it or if you're going to compete with anyone with the same name in some other country!

Brain mapping the best, works better with more people.. try it :D

Jay-D,
Thanks for the input and I love your business name. Brain mapping is a great idea.

I'm new to photography but I do have my own auto detailing business and I'm with jay-d on this one... I came up with my name in a similar/same way. Shine, gloss, luster, lustro, etc... words in english and other languages came to mind and I ended up with LUSTR Auto Detailing. Not lustEr and not lustrO (means gloss/shine/mirror-like in a few different languages) but LUSTR. This has worked very well for me and has gotten a few compliments as well. You don't necessarily need to make a word from other words which describe your business but it's a good start. Good luck with choosing the name!

Missing vowels to make up words just makes it hard for people to find you, since no-one will be able to spell it after they hear the name.
