I ran across this at B&H today while looking into the Lee 4x4 (100mm) filter holders: I really just need something to hold one 4x4/4x5 filter in front of the lens.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …rass_Filter.html#features (external link)

  • Heliopan 706107 Heliopan Rotating Filter Holder 105MM.
  • The 105mm Heliopan rotating filter holder is made from brass and has a matte black finish.
  • It is intended to be used with Heliopan rectangular 4'' wide (100mm) glass filters up to 4mm thick.
  • It is threaded in the front to accept additional filters, lens hoods or to combine multiple holders for special effects.
  • It combines the ability to both rotate and alter the position of graduated filters.

I've been looking for an inexpensive way to use one 4x4/4x5 filter with a polarizer, but unfortunately, this is turning out to be a rather expensive endeavor!
- $75 Lee Foundation Kit
- $60 Lee Wide Angle Adapter Ring
- $52 Lee Accessory Front Thread Adapter Ring (105mm)
- $219 B&W CPL
- $125 for two Hitech soft GND (0.6 & 0.9) 4x5 filters
----------
$531

The Heliopan rotating filter holder (above) that attaches directly to the front threads of your filter seems perfect...but what the hell is up with the cost? $400 bucks for a 105mm ring that simply rotates??? These guys are nuts!

Besides the $400 cost, this seems like the perfect way to put a 4x5 filter in front of a 77mm polarizer already attached to your lens. It appears that you would only need the Heliopan rotating filter holder and a 77-105 step-up ring. This would allow you to use all of your preexisting 77mm filters along side any of the 4x5 filters.

Does anyone know if someone else makes a similar setup? Hell, I don't care if it's a durable plastic. $400 seems really extreme when you could buy a 105mm CPL, knock out the glass, and attach some clips to the front to hold the 4x5 filters...all for way less than $400 and it would still rotate independently of the CPL attached to the lens.

Seems like an unnecessary and expensive approach. See my response in your other thread.

That attaches to a filter holder so with a step up ring all you would be able to do is to attach a 105mm CPL.

Like everything else that Heliopan sells, it expensive beyond reason. BTW, the only company that has a 77-105mm step-up is, you guessed it, Heliopan and it costs $67.

Of course! You'd think with the price of their products, they could put up a website with all their products...nope.
