canon 350D Rebel XT

opps sorry!!!

Hello, I am new to p.o.t.n and digital photography. after waiting several years to purchase a camera, I finally broke down and went to buy the eos d 300. when i got to the store, I decided to spend an additional 200 dollars and get the xt. I have been taking
pictures for just about three weeks with the camera with no problems. Yesterday i was shooting my sons youth group when i get an err 02. after some quick reading i reset the battery. the camera worked fine for a few frames. shortly there after i received an err 99. again i reracked the battery and cf card per the manual. after one more shot i got an err cf code that would not go away. the card was a wolf /ritz camera card made buy(lexar). I took the camera back to wolf camera. they replaced the card then put my original card in another camera with the same results same errors popped up. i think i will go buy another brand of card to use and keep this one as a back up.

I love this forum it is full of great info. i am trying to soak it all in. But can someone explain to me what a sticky is? It has been impressed upon me buy some of the posts that it is best to search the "stickys" before asking a question.

A sticky thread is one that doesn't scroll down as it gets older. It always stays at the top pf the list.

Hi Dave, I'm also getting a Digital Rebel XT next week, other than the CF card, have you experience any other issues with your camera? Are you using the lens kit? How's the camera in general? I've been reading reviews about XT and so far everything turns out to be OK except for the soft picture issues when using the 18-55 lens kit at smaller aperture. I was thingking of getting the body only and getting a better lens.

Randall, I am very new to digital photography so i am very happy with the instant gratification this new camera provides. I am happy with every thing so far. Any poor pictures that I have taken have been my fault im sure. I have the standard lens and i bought a sigma zoom lens as well. I like the camera just fine.

I have just had this problem, the button that pops the memory card out (technical term!) is faulty - the CF wont store my pics, nightmare!!!

Hi to the new DSLR converts

The thing to remember about any DSLR like the XT/350D is that the quality of the photos depends on the LENS more than the camera itself.

Think of it this way: The Lens projects the image into the camera and the camera just captures what it sees.

So, my advice would be if you can afford it and if you have the patience then its worth looking for a better lens than the kit 18-55.
The kit lens is fine for starters and learning but you will soon be wanting better quality and perhaps a more specific field of view (FoV) or zoom range. Then you will have to buy ANOTHER lens. Better to look now and save the money.
