Hello everyone:
I'm desperate for help here. My Photoshop has stopped working: it's legal, I just opened it this morning and the tools will not work - worked fine yesterday, no new downloads or changed settings. I get a message from my firewall that says "Photoshop could be recording your keystrokes"

I have run antivirus, antispyware, Hijack This, etc etc., nothing comes up.

I can open files, but none of the tools work, no move tool, selection, nothing!

I've looked all over the net and found nothing but the Adobe Liscensing problem, which I downloaded the patch for, but still nothing.

This involves work, and if I can't get up and running soon, I'll be in real trouble (I'm a freelance designer)

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks to anyone who responds.

Chris.

Since it's legal, call Adobe. You never know when you might get an answer here.

If you recently purchased it call Adobe, there should be a customer service number in the paper work. They should be able to get you pointed in the right direction.

If the reason it wouldn't run was due to licensing, Adobe would tell you that directly. IE: a pop up of some sort comes up saying this license has expired etc...
I've had that happen to me with legal PSCS install due to changes in hardware.

I hope that works for you. I have never, ever managed to get a response from Adobe about anything. One of THE worst customer care businesses I have ever come across.

Its a legal copy:
I've restarted, reset prefs, reinstalled twice! Nothing!

I've used this program for two years with no problems. If I can't get it up and running I'll lose my business. I can't afford another copy.

Thanks for your replies.

My expierence with Adobe customer service has been wonderful....I would call them. There are many stolen copies floating around...But there support is well worth getting it thru legal means.

They have spent hours helping me on one occasion when they could have easily and justifably gave me the...Call the other guy routine.

But I don't think your problem is adobe...

Good point.

I'd suggest going to www.malwarebytes.org (external link) and grab their software. Run it, and immediately do an update. Run a Quick Scan. Reboot if they say so. Try Photoshop.

And do a MalwareBytes Full Scan as soon as you can walk away from the system for an hour or two.

I'd start by deleting the preferences file. It's been to known to cure a variety of PS weird behavior.

S/he did that: "I've restarted, reset prefs, reinstalled twice! Nothing!"

Guessing this is Windows (what version?), PSCS4?

What do you get in PS?
No error message of any kind?

What happens when you click a tool or for instance try changing preferences or "save as" or "transform" or whatever?

Screenshot maybe?

When my CS3 stopped working, I've reinstalled it 2 times.
It didn't work either so I chose the radical method: format C.
Now it works flawlessly.

Chris.

There is your answer, your firewall or antivirus is blocking Photoshop.
Go into those applications and check your program settings.
Add photoshop into the ublocked applications section.

Ahh, I missed that!
Good eye Gunter!

PS is trying to phone Home, and cant and is feeling "illegal" until it can..

Silly set up, and one of the huge downsides of the tricks software makers use to authenticate.. but that certainly could be it.
