Ok... we had some scrimmages this weekend. Sun was absoluely brutal.
It didn't help that we had black jerseys and the other teams had white.
I didn't have too much room to move around like I normally do, it was a jamboree and both teams were on the same side since there was another game going on on the field next to us.

I'll take any CC given - as long as you are helping me improve!

All were taken with the Canon 40D, 70-200mm F/2.8
All are ISO 200, F/2.8 - AT Servo, center point focus

Thanks in advance

Not bad at all, Try shooting in Raw and you can scale the white's back a tad which could help with the brightness as it's in shot #2

RAW would help but you can do the same with a jpeg in ACR. If not using ACR, you could even do a little levels adjustment right in PS and probably see the image toned down nicely.

Image wise, you did quite well in tough conditions. Good action, crops are nice and the focus is solid. You should be happy with these.

Thanks for the comments and the suggestions!
The sun was extremely brutal.
I was pretty happy with these, even though I know I still have a long way to go, and absolutely can't wait to be in full uniform and be on the big field!

I've never shot RAW with sports. I have only attempted RAW a small handfull of times- and honestly, I need a crash course because my RAW adjustments were not very good. I gave up.

caroleigh:

were those cropped much? Still pretty darned sharp and as others mentioned, just not a lot you can do with THAT much light!!!

My setup is very similar to yours and am looking forward to shooting starting next week. Will be my first time with the 70-200 shooting football. I should have good access after speaking with the head coach of the team.

Good work. Keep posting as the season progresses.

Hi Dave, some of there were cropped a pretty good amount. I have to learn to shoot vertical, it seems I always miss the shot...lots of cut off limbs... so these were shot horizontal and cropped vertical. I know I have to watch that because this was not full field so when we are on full field I need to learn to shoot vertical.
Thanks!

These are great. I have never seen junior football before. I bet you'd be surprised that we have a florishing leagues here in Australia.

They are sharp. I'd be happy with these. Question on shot #7, did you recompose or did you let AI keep the focus on the QB?

I love this lens too.
