This darling Cheetah cub lives in the nursery at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. You view the cub through a wire mesh. I used the maximum aperture on my 70-200mm f/4L IS lens in order to make the mesh less noticeable. The exposure for the shot was 1/15 second at f/4 using ISO 200. I could have boosted the ISO to get a higher shutter speed but, I was shooting with IS turned on and using a monopod so I was was pretty confident of 1/15 second.

It is hard through wire but you have done well. Would have liked a different pose though.

Nice cat, i like to pose, kind of *i know your taking pictures of me, but im not looking* :D

Wednesday i went to a hawk and owl trust, lots of wire to shoot through, i managed some shots but some need some dodge and burning via Photoshop!

i think you did a great job! i have the same 70-200 F/4 lens, it was also my first outing with it and its dam sharp!

Look at http://www.bensmith.biz (external link) only one picture from the day that was via wire!

For some reason tho this morning the picture is streched so it looks odd!

Oh...Hello :)

Well done! Getting rid of the wire is tough sometimes... I wouldn't have noticed it was there if you hadn't mentioned it, at least initially.

Cute shot!

Sorry, the wire can be lost quite easy, get nearer the better, use a single focus point you should be ok.

Here is a quick one to show what can be done, lens against wire, center focus point.

Certainly it can be easy. I've also run into a few situations where I wasn't allowed to get close to the fence, and the animal was just on the other side. So it CAN be difficult. Especially for a relative beginner, like me. 8-)

(And no need to apologize -- new information and advice is always welcome!)

I hired a 500mm F4L for the wildlife park and found it quite easy to get through the wire but had a go with the 70-200 2.8 and didnt have as much luck, though i was holding the 500 while trying to shoot. Worth going to that place just to see those cubs...

Heres one i took with the 500
