Rocky Mountain National Park, northern boundary...brown trees are standing dead. I shot with a uwa lens and this isn't a drop in the bucket. Pine beetles on a vendetta...no natural enemies. The second shot is also part of the head waters of the Colorado River.

The whole western slope is REALLY bad.
I think I read somewhere that it takes a week straight of -20F, or something close to that, to kill off the beetles.
Also, the plan as I understand is to replant Aspens in the areas affected.
It will be interesting to see what half of Colorado looks like in five years.
