Was lucky enough to have a load of these little fellas come visit the feeders this afternoon. (Funny how they've adopted their diet to eat peanuts etc).

I had the 500 on with the 1.4TC at about 20ft, although I could have easily have just used standard lens as they appear to be so tame, I can get within an arms reach of them - and boy, aren't they such tiny, delicate things.

I never even gave a thought to having 2nd camera out, but soon wished I did as one landed in the climbing hydrangea right beside me, totally not a care about me being there.

Note the constant change in the weather - one second sun, the next cloud again!

Thankyou Mitch - they are just so tiny, wee things. Got to within an arms length of one and he / she didn't give a fig about me being there. Love 'em to bits.

Just great to see them (usually in a group of 10 /12) twittering away like little monkeys scrabbling about the bushes, with their long tails dangling about.

We had some longtailed tits earlier in the year, but they seem to have deserted our feeders for somewhere else, so at least now I know where they've gone :D

Cute little devils.

Just out of interest to see if I could get the birdies closer to the house, I hung a feed station right outside the back door, and have already had the blue tits & great tits on the fat balls.
Yesterday the long tails came right to it - literally I could stand there within an arms reach and they're not that bothered about me being there.
This was from the back door, and had to step back to achieve min focus distance - they're that close to me now.

Any chance you can take that mesh netting off there? I have seen birds get their feet, heads and wings caught in that stuff and fight it until they die. Wouldn't want that.

Just mentioned it cause last winter I saw evidence of a Red Headed Woodpecker getting caught in it. He got out, but I started a thread in the Bird Talk forum about it and several others told their stories of birds caught and dying in it. Now I make sure I never put it out. :)
