My 50 1.4 had autofocus issues (unable to focus to anything closer than 8 feet). Sent it to canon repair and not only did I receive a properly functioning AF, but the lens looks brand new! They even changed the lens barrel. I think the $$ was worth the fix.

Here are a couple of shots with it:

Hope all the other people with similar 50 1.4 problems get theirs fixed because this lens is worth it.

Canon is very good at fixing problems! I had a spring pop out of the lens mount area so I took it in and they fixed it for nothing.

I wonder how much that naked cowboy makes?
Looks like he's lost some weight since I was there 2 years ago. He used to be kind of big! (muscular big)

My friend had the same problem creep up on him recently except the opposite with the 50mm, it won't focus on anything beyond 10 feet. He was curious how much the repair was? Do you mind sharing the $?

With everything included (tax, shipping which they ship to you fedex overnight when they are done), it was $103. Pretty much receive a brand new 50 after.

yeah, the the focus ring is VERY SMOOTH to turn (like a new lens), and the AF focuses fast like a lens with USM should! :)

No, wasn't running for mayor, but he did have alot of cash inside his guitar. He was also wearing a webcam on his hat. He's been there for YEARS. He's a pretty funny character too

Yeah my 50mm f1.4 lens won't autofocus anymore either. I've been contemplating on fixing it for a few months now. Thanks for the perfect topic with pics, now I will go ahead and get it fixed. Did you submit the repair request online at canon?
