I may have re-sized this incorrectly in Lightroom, I set it at 300 X 300

It would be sooo much better with the uppor portion cropped away to avoid those two bright blobs in the background.

I like this shot. Nice DOF, the sharpness is great! While your crop does get rid of those blobs Robert pointed out, maybe you could try cloning them out in Photoshop, since the tight crop cuts off the top of the flower.

My only comment is that the crop could be tighter to feature the flower stem diagonally top to bottom left to right (as it is already but tighter) and the background could be desaturated a bit to really make the flower really pop. This in my opinion reduces the competition between subject and background.

I like it. +1 on cloning out the blobs in lieu of too tight crop

Thanks for all the comments...still pp processing in lightroom on a lap top, hope to have desktop up and running by next week for dedicated pp.

I agree on the close crop...both ways..will play with that a bit.

SWEET! I think you nailed it there ... A rule of thumb in my eye is to measure the amount of background to subject. In most cases the more subject the better and the whole scene could be the subject. Backgrounds can be muted and often because the same color in the subject and background compete destroying shape. An example is the green of the flower stem and the green background. If the background is muted the greener green is in the subject.

Some other possibilities are to desaturate the background green nearly to gray scale. Convert the image to B/W and control the subject / background levels with the blue and green controls. Lots to play with.
