I saw this guy crossing the road. Couldn't resist stopping and harassing him for a picture. I just love how his eye matches the rest of him.

Excellent image of a very cool snake!

Though venemous, they are not violently prone to strike. Gotta love that!

Snakes do not posess eyelids. Their eyes are open all the time.

Beautiful shot! I've been known to stop and get snakes off the road, even these guys. Most people go out of their way to hit them, and it's not right, especially since snakes are soooo misunderstood.

Thanks for your comments, all.

Just to clarify, I used the word "harrassed" somewhat in jest. I did poke him with a stick to get a rise out of him. Then after I was finished taking pictures, I used my stick to get him off the road.

By the way, his eye intrigued me also. Here is a 100% crop showing the detail of his eye.

I don't know if it all the rain we've been getting but there seems to be lots more copperheads this year. I've seen at least 50 this summer .

Nice shot

Wow - makes me want to get a macro lens!

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Very nice shot, you had much better results than I did with my Water Moccasin.
