I have a Canon 50D with my assortment of lens, and sometimes, we just need a decent point and shoot, one with RAW capabilities.

The G10 was the only good option with manual controls, but it was still too big for my taste.

I think the S90 is the answer to my prayers, a smaller more compact camera, f/2.0 lens, a sensor that rivals that of the G10/G11 (1/1.7").:lol:

How many of you who own SLR cameras will be purchasing the S90 for their point and shoot?

i agree! I'm excited for it! especially the control ring! perfect! I had a D-Lux 4 which was amazing, however I just sold it yesterday. My reason was because I found myself using it less and less because of moving to photography as a full-time careeer. I found the camera to be just big enough to border on "inconvenient" with a strap and all.

This form factor however is absolutely perfect and I can absolutely see myself having it with me every day. I absolutely plan on getting one. I just wish the sensor was a touch bigger (1/1.6+) but it's basically the same size as the G11 sensor so it should be pretty good!

This camera is bags and bags of epic win. Fewer megapixels, zoom/focus ring, f2 max 28-105mm lens? YES. Canon finally gets it.

I can't wait. I'm looking for a pro-level compact to carry around now after selling my 5D and lenses. I think this may be it. Was considering the D-LUX 4 and Oly E-P1 but this is looking promising. Can't wait for some hands-on demos to come out.

This is a competitor the LX3. The EP-1 won't quite truly fit in your pocket, but its sensor will smoke the S90. For a pocket camera, this S90 is the best I've seen (the G10/11 IMO aren't quite pocketable).

No HD video + $400 = Meh.

The main reason to get a compact is to take snapshots of both photos and videos. And 640x480 video does not cut it nowadays.

I ditched my SD880 a while back (image quality sucked, controls were awkward) so I've been needing a new P&S to carry around. That said, I'm not spending $430 on this. If the street price dips down to around $350 then I'm in. If not, eh?

EDIT: I don't much care about video, but I am a bit curious as to why HD video was left out of this & the G11 but 720p30 is included on the much cheaper SD980 and SD940.

I was thinking exactly the same. I have been considering D-Lux4 and G10, but this seems like a better option for me.

Yay! First post!

Video aside, I'm interested in how the actual Image quality turns out. especially in low light!

I doubt it will actually be $430 by the time it hits stores. I remember when the G7 came out it was listed at something north of $400, and I purchased it for $350 brand new from beach camera right after it was released. I'm sure some stores will get it for less.

I guess I misread the Canon site earlier. No HD? This was a big plus on the LX3. Canon keeps dropping the ball.

I thought this was interesting.

The first review on the canon website posted by "canon employee"
"really bad
Date: August 19, 2009
the camera looks nice, sleek, but it feels really cheap, and definitely not confortable in your hands.overpriced for what you are getting, "

they gave it 1-star across the board.

edit: I personally give no credit to this. I think it's a load of crap, but we will have to wait to see the reviews. I just thought it interesting that on the announcement day someone would post a negative review already.
