I've posted this image here, but a comment on another pano forum has me wondering that I'm not seeing problems in this shot.

Here's the shot:

On the other forum, one person said:

I love the shot, nor does it shout that it is a pan. except for the shape.

Because this was shot with a UWA - Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm - I'm wondering if his use of the word "shape" means something other than the aspect ratio. Do you see anything in this shot that would indicate that it was shot at 10mm? If so, please explain so I can see it, too.

His other comment:

The wide range of subject distances from near to far will inevitably have some Parallax problems on a ball head, even one as good as yours. stitching problems are par for the course when you can not rotate around the exact "nodal" point.

I've gone through this image several times at varying zoom levels. I can't see any parallax issues. Can you? If so, please explain so I can see it, too.

Thanks for any comments and explanations. I just want to make sure that I can learn to detect UWA and parallax issues so that I can avoid and/or correct them.

Was this image stitched from several shots? I have the impression that it wasn't, but that the person who commented on it thought that it was.

His first comment was a compliment, given that he apparently understood the definition of pano to be a stitched image. Others (me) may think that a horizontally long image is a pano shot, regardless of how it was created. Of course, I have been wrong before.

His second comment also alludes to his belief that you stitched the image. A tripod is necessary so that you don't have any angular distortion in successive images. My ignorance might be showing. However, I think a stitched pano shot suffers from the use of a wide angle lens because of edge distortion. Perhaps these are accentuated when parts are near the camera and others are far away. Nevertheless, I wouldn't have put it this way. To me, it's the lens, not the relative distances of objects. As I said, I could be wrong.

So, did you stitch images for this shot? It seems to me you have what one would expect from a 10mm lens.

Yes, it was stitched. 5 shots at 10mm on a 50D, yielding 60 megapixels and then cropped down to 41 megapixels to get rid of junk.

The fact that you didn't think it was stitched is a huge statement.

Thanks for viewing and commenting.

I'm certainly no expert, but I can't see any of the issues described.
