Just bought a new mac pro-- now i need a new nmonitor to go along with it..

I can get some pretty good pricing on the following

nec p-221w-bk

nec multisync 2090uxi - only 20"

nec multisync 2690uxi <refurb with only 90 day wrranty.....

Best prices would be on the first 2-- not sure which to go with, any realy world experience???

I've seen the 2090uxi, and would have to say it's nice - but don't have extensive knowledge about it. What's the panel life of the P221? I would think it would start to dim/shift within two years and probably more significantly after three. I bet it does look good though, but IMO not worth the cost over the long term. I would go with the 2690. If you don't mind me asking, why NEC? They are a fine brand, but there are a lot of good screens in that price range.

All I hope is that your camera has as much money put into it as your computer. Depending on what type of photography you do, any of the monitors may be overkill.

That said, included calibration models if you can get them would be better, and the 24" 2490UXi with calibration hardware should be about the same price as 2690UXi without.

Or just get a dell 2209WA when they aren't overloaded with orders.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I am actually a wedding photographer, and would like a nice monitor for my album design and editing in general - I dont care about the cash- its a write off anyway.. and the pricing i am geting is awesome.. only for NEC products though which is why i WAS STICKING WITH nec.

I would be interested in looking at others as well. but I can get the nec p221w for like $300 bucks with the calibration software..

If it's with calibration hardware, it's a steal, get two of them. If it's not hardware, just software, then not really as good a deal when something like the 2209 is under 300.

The LaCie is very nice, but way more expensive. I'd try to view them side by side if possible.

Congrats, Joey on your new mac pro and I am sure your gonna enjoy that machine. I like the NEC multisync 2690uxi and love the thin bezel on that monitor. I remember when I was researching monitors, I came across posts of people having problems with the Mac pro and NEC. It was mostly the ATI 4870 and because I don't know which card you have, I am simply making a guess. This might be an old issue or you probably are aware of the issue but thought I try and be helpful to a fellow Mac user.

There are also posts of some people in there with possible solutions. But anyways good luck and enjoy your awesome computer.
