Hi,

I'm not sure if this is in the right folder since it's film question so if it needs to be moved, that's fine

I'm looking for a good 35mm SLR to play with as a compliment to my Rebel DSLR. I've seen both the Elan 7E and the Elan 7NE online and they seem really similar in features. Is there any major differences between the two cameras?

Don't really know much about the 7E but have the 7NE. Have had it for a few years now. According to the Canon website, the 7NE is the upgraded 7E

While I don't use it an awful lot, I probably shoot a couple dozen rolls of film per year. 7NE is a pretty nice camera for the price. Don't particularly like the eye control ... a pain when jumping from the 7NE to another camera without it ... but it is a nice camera.

Have you thought about getting a better grade used Canon film camera?

The 7ne has a better auto focus system. Or faster. Better metering. Maybe including spot metering. I know the 7e has no spot metering. Just bought one last week. I don't think "speed" is important when just playing around with shooting film. You are not going to fire up the whole roll of film in one day. I think the more pro film body is too much of a camera if you are just trying out shooting film. I bought an EOS 3 before but returned to Adorama because I don't see myself shooting the EOS 3 like my 1dmarkIII.

I've been shooting film for a while (I still have my AE-1 Program from high school) so film is nothing new to me. I'm just looking for a EOS film body for playing around with. The Elan 7's seem to be a decent mid-level body and are around in good numbers.

The AF, E-TTL II, and the backlight on the LCD panel are the differences from the 7(e). The Elan 7N(e) has the AF system from the EOS 10D.

I have 2 EOS-3's, an Elan IIe, and an Elan 7N for shooting film.
