We decided to go to Kuliak Bay instead of the closer Kukak Bay even though a storm was moving in. Kuliak Bay was packed with fish. And bears.

The weather was perfect in the morning and it rained in the afternoon. The gamble had been worth it. Kuliak was a tiny, picture perfect bay with crystal clear water packed with several varieties of salmon -- silver, chums and pinks -- and Dolly Varden Trout, which follow the salmon and eat their roe.

The skiff parted hundreds of darting fish as it glided through the shallow water.

We saw three sows with cubs. One sow had a pair of gangly yearling cubs nearly as large as her that were still nursing and snatching fish from her. When there are plenty of fish like at Kuliak many adult bears are picky and eat only the brains and skin of the salmon which have the highest concentration of fat. Not this mom who bolted down every bit of fish that her wailing cubs did not grab from her.

The bear images are wonderful Ed but I gotta tell ya, the first on on your Zen is soooo peaceful and tranquil. Really grabbed me.

Well Done!

Jay made me look at your zen. Those first two are nice. I like the second one better. I like how the sky and the left part of the image form a white V. That 16-35 looks nice and so does that 1ds miii :D

I'm just lovin' #7. Must be the eye. This is an opportunity I'd love to have sometime.

In that shot she actually looks more like an Airedale Terrier than a Bear. What a unique image!
