How do I get the pics into a collection in LR2?

I imported my files, and they show up in "ALL Photos", but I want them in their own "collection"

I have figured out how to use LR2 for all the editing functions, as well as exporting, but the importing to collections or catalogs has got me really stumped and frustrated?? I need to figure out the file management system within LR2!!

Can anyone explain or point me to some tuturiols for this part??

Thanks--

Scott

Library view, select the images you want, then either press the "+" in the collections tab, or right click anywhere in that tab.

Scott,

One thing to be aware of is that the Collections organization won't affect your folder management. So, let's say you import all of your photos simply into the My Pictures folder without specifying subfolders, you can organize them into collections, but if you look at your pictures in a normal browser they will all be in a "bunch" in My Pictures.

So, organizing things is something you want to give thought to right at the beginning. Each of us does it our own way, but in a way that makes some sense. For me, when I import a shoot, I do it into a current master folder on an internal hard drive, into its own folder, then at some point after my initial work I move it onto an external drive into a year-specific master folder, and I also do a back-up onto another external drive.

I use collections as kind of a redundant organization, so that wherever files might be on my system I have more than one way of finding and working with them. Keywords is another very handy way for quick finding.

Thanks for your reply Tony. I have all my pics in folders in My Pictures, but just wanted to get the "collection" folders in LR2 a little easier to use for my SR Pics. Once the prints are ordered and delivered, those files get deleted from HD, as my LAB does archiving for me, IF the need for any reprints arises.

Well, the nice thing about Lightroom is you can take several approaches to organizing your pics!
