G6 Case

I would like to get specific suggestions for a good carrying case for the G6. (I already have a camera bag for carrying all the paraphernalia, but want a case just to carry the camera around.) I was going to mail-order Canon's PSC-70 case, which is supposedly made for the G6, but I read a number reviews that were very unfavorable because that case has no strap, is really too large for wearing on your belt, and is so snug that the camera can easily be accidently turned on inside the case.

Thanks.

Don't get it!
I returned mine, it is way to small.

Hello, Here is one thread pertaining to case's for the G6,
https://photography-on-the.net …?t=45663&highlight=Camera
which will also have a link in it to yet another discussion about camera bags here,

Hopefully you will find some useful information in these. Good Luck.

I carry my gear around in a lowpro camera back pack which is great for when i go off rod cycleing. To me i think there is plenty of padding and with having such small gear now have room for more bits and bobs.

But that depends if thats the kind of camrea bag your after, the other good thing about it stops all the weight from being on one shoulder and are able to hike around much easier and quicker......?

Speakibng of accidentally turning the camera on, I always try to remember to turn my belt cam ( a Sony P150) to Record mode before stowing it. That way, if I bump it and turn it on, the lens doesn't extend in the case.

swdixon-
I too am new to this group and had the same question several weeks ago. I wanted the slimmest profile for a “camera only” case so I could just grab it and go. Convenience was one of my major criteria for getting the G6 in the first place. After reading all the pros & cons on the PSC-70 case, (for me) the pros just beat the cons.

However, I got the package deal that included the case, a nice wide carry strap and a spare battery. It took a bit of getting used to putting the G6 into that case so you don’t trigger the power toggle, but after a few cycles, it comes naturally. I pinch the lens cap and just below the power toggle when putting it in- works fine. I carry the G6 in the PSC-70 case inside my day pack every day and have never had it toggle the power on in the case- it is only an issue when putting the camera back in the PSC-70.

I looked high and low at a pro camera shop with 2 full shelves of camera bags of every shape and size and found the PSC-70 to be the closest fitting. I am not crazy about the closure of the PSC-70 as it has a Velcro flap and a short zipper on each side making 3 items to disengage to get it out in a hurry, but after use, it becomes natural to pull the zippers down in advance and use the flap only. I do like the fact that the neck strap is connected to the camera and not the case; wince at the thought of the camera falling to the ground while the strap around your neck is firmly attached to the case. I typically throw the strap cross chest with the camera to my back to keep it out of reach of my 18m old son who is my photo target. Those little hands have quite a grip!

What I did find to be an excellent camera+accessory bag was the Lowepro Edit 120+. http://www.lowepro.com/Products/Shoulder_Bags/designed_digital/Edit_120_Plus.aspx (external link)

My kit consists of:
G6 + Strap
420ex flash
Lensmate 52mm tube adapter + filters
Extra Battery
Charger

All this fits perfectly into the Lowepro case with a bit of room in the accessory pockets for a few other items (filters or a lens or two). It has its own strap & belt loop. The handle is well rounded and cushioned. The really cool item is the removable flash case at the base of the pack. The camera slides in vertical and is very quick out of the bag. The inside of the case has the standard moveable padded Velcro divider that can easily adjust to the camera having the Lensmate on or off the camera- very nice out doors when using the tube adapter to protect the lens mechanism.

Best of luck and enjoy!

Thanks for all the responses. After a thorough review, I settled on a Tamrac 5693 and am very happy with it. The fit for a G6 is perfect - well-padded, snug but not too tight. Shoulder strap and belt loop. Front pouch nice for extra memory cards/battery.

Thanks again.
