My 1DMKIII today suddenly started to capture black frames. The Live View is also showing just total blackness.

Is this the shutter? I suspect I only have 50/60K clicks.

Number of cycles isn't seriously relevant, except that if you were far beyond the test rating, a failed shutter would be more likely. But a shutter can fail at any point below that, too.

Take off the lens and cycle the camera at low shutter speeds to see if the shutter is consistently opening. The only reason I can conceive of having black no image with or without Live View is if the shutter is not opening at all.

The shutter does open, exposing the sensor. I can import all my black images and read EXIF data from them.

EXIF data does not guarantee that the shutter actually opened. EXIF is the data related to the exposure settings. You are asking if it's the shutter. You can take off the lens and look at the shutter operations directly--then you will know better than anyone out here in the cloud can tell you.

I wasn't clear obviously, the shutter is working fine, it opens and closes, I'm just getting a black image.

They all load in all applications and are accepted as images, just totally black.

Google says my CCD/CMOS imager is busted and needs replacing.

This is a common enough fault with cheap compact cameras ... :(

Sounds as if there's no information being sent out from the sensor (either a communication problem or the sensor itself not working), which sucks. Looks like your camera is going to get a vacation to Club Canon :(.
