Hey there,

I would definitely recommend either the 55-250 or the 70-300 IS USM from Canon... The Image Stabilizer at this focal length alone is worth the slightly extra cost, as starting at anything above 200mm camera shake becomes a larger and larger issue.

If cost is a huge issue, check out Adorama's refurb section:

55-250 ($200)

70-300 ($400)
http://www.adorama.com …%20Refurbished&item_no=47 (external link)

I would definitely check out The Digital Picture for a good review/comparison of these slower telephoto zooms...

Canon Rebel XT | Canon 7D | Canon 17-55 IS USM | 24 1.4 L | 28 1.8 | 85 1.8 | 200 2.8 L | Tokina 11-16 | Tamron 70-200 2.8

If it's one thing I've learned on these forums, it's alway's best to ask for other's advice or suggestions before making a purchase. I never would've considered a couple of those previously mentioned lenses otherwise.
One more quick question. I am thinking of shooting soccer next year since it's very popular in my area, so would the "Sigma APO 120-400mm F4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM Lens" be fast enough during daylight hours with the occasional cloud cover? If not what lens hopefully $1000.00 or under might I consider?
Or would a 2X teleconverter be a viable option for my f/2.8 70-200mm even with losing 2 stops?

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

Might as well go with the teleconverter for that, at 400mm you'll be at f/5.6 on both.
Be aware that at 400mm f/5.6 and no flash you'll be lucky to get any decent handheld shots - a mono/tripod is a must.

When the 55-250 get so cheap!?! That's tempting as a smaller zoom to take places...
