I installed the hack and was really impressed with the additional functionality... UNTIL....

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this...

When I connect my camera to my windows 7 laptop via the USB cable and connect to the Canon Utility to transfer files, it loads up, but when I start transferring files to my computer, it hangs after a few images transfer over. I have to remove the battery in the camera to get it working again.

If I connect via USB and use windows explorer to access the photos on the camera, it sees some of the photos but before finding them all, it hangs just like above...

If I take the CF card out of my camera and access it directly with my computer, no problems...

If I put a CF card that is not bootable into my camera, no problems...

If I format the card that has the autoexec.bin and use it per normal, no problem...

If I make the card bootable with the hack working, I get transfer errors..

I believe I have done a pretty thorough job narrowing it down to only happening when I am using a card that has the hack enabled on it...

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this? It is as if the card can't keep up once I have the hack and multiple images on it..

Have the same problem here, interestingly things got better with the December version of the hack. I have also found that sometimes if I delete the hack from my CF and then paste it back in again,(leaving the picture folder alone) I can use usb - EOS utility again.

Yup - I don't remember the "why" but its back there somewhere. Happened to others before.

For those of us that don't use the EOS utility and USB cable its not an issue.

I attempted to read through the thread before posting.. But this is a pretty big thread!

So, if you are not using the EOS utiliy or USB Cable, what are you doing? Are you taking the card out and putting it in your computer everytime?

Yeah, a lot of people bought a card reader or if their PC comes with card readers they use those.

There seem to be lots of problems with windows 7 and Vista (anything after XP) when they try to connect with the EOS Utility. I personall had it start to crash in the middle of downloading pictures under Vista and have used the card reader in my PC ever since.

The only folks that REALLY need to use EOS Utility if those trying to shoot tethered to the PC.

EDIT: I know some say taking the card out of the camera that often may damage the pins but many of us have more than 1 card and so are exchanging them often anyway. Just gotta be careful and don't force them in.

Mine had this issue with XP as well... I just went with a card reader and never looked back. Saves so much time and battery power.

I found megaupload links for cardtricks 1.45 and testfir.fir.

I have not tested them but possibly will soon.

I just tested the hack with the files from megaupload and they work. I downloaded them after seednie replied with a download quota exceeded (so I guess the quota is ok now) and I checked the link given by WaltA for cardtricks and, even if I stuck with megaupload, there's plenty of information like FAT16 or 32 and <2GB or >4GB.

Thanks to all for the 55 pages of information. My camera is a little younger now (but not me).

Added Extended AEB. (3-9 frames and 0.3-3.0EV step increment )
To set up parameters:
Go to Info screen and with up or down buttons choose "Extended AEB".
Select "Frames" or "EV" with left or right button.
Press set to go in sub menu. Set value with left or right buttons.
Press set to save it and get out from sub menu.
To start Extended AEB go in Drive Mode screen and press dp button. Or if "DP Button" was set to "Extended AEB" just press dp button.

Thats a pretty interesting feature. For doing HDR or something like that on a tripod could make for interesting tests.

When handholding, I find the DP button a pain to try and reach without losing my focus. On a tripod it works OK though.
