Other added feature: Vatoz added a sort of intervalometer for the bracketing mode.
It is possible to configure an inerval between shots.

This is his comment:

I have added an automatic intervalometer.
You must configure it in menu and set dp button as a shortcut for it.
After starting you can disable it using main modeswitching knob (just turn it to another position, you will hear confirmation beep).

I'm very interested in doing this but have a few questions. I read through a number of the pages but not all so I'm sorry if it's been covered already....

1) currently my camera has 1.1.1 firmware. If I install the hack how do I go back to the factory 1.1.1? Is it just a matter of formatting the card?

2) are there any drawbacks to installing it?

3) I read on one of the pages that people are having issues uploading their images via the white cable and have to use a card reader instead. Has this ever been resolved?

4) I don't see a 'print' button on the back of my camera. Is it the button just above the LCD that I'd have to use?

5) Has anyone installed it, didn't like it, and went back to the factory settings?

Thanks!

The menu will show always 1.1.1.

2) are there any drawbacks to installing it?

it is sufficent to format the card

3) I read on one of the pages that people are having issues uploading their images via the white cable and have to use a card reader instead. Has this ever been resolved?

Solved

4) I don't see a 'print' button on the back of my camera. Is it the button just above the LCD that I'd have to use?

it's the button with the printer icon (blu)

5) Has anyone installed it, didn't like it, and went back to the factory settings?

I don't know, I'm very satisfied to have a stable fw with spot and 3200ISO and more new features.

Ciao

Great news:
Thanks to great Sergei who added "IR Prox Release". Wave two times in front of IR sensor to take a picture.

Very easy to use, put ON in the menu (Menu than Disp) and than you move your hands behind the IR sensor et voila, this shot has been done while I was cooking fish and potatoes!!

This is a very handy feature!
It takes a little practice at first.
But once you know how close and how swift to move your hands, you can also do the trick with only one finger.

as to # 5 above, I installed earlier versions, didn't like it, went back to factory settings and then tried it again with later versions. I've gone back to factory settings a number of times. Using the Dec 2010 version and all of them since then and am very happy with it. They've got it down pat - pretty much bug-free now.

After reading the last few pages of the CHDK forum it concerns me that there is now 3 versions of this hack. One developer saying he's going to delete some of the "non-critical" features and include the new ones as they come out - but he can't include the IR Prox hack cause he can't get it to work .

Getting a little funky out there. We might want to be careful installing new versions from here on.

I should add that Sergei's versions have been pretty stable since late last year.

I love the work that is being done by the hacking community, it just shows how great the hardware is when the right people are creating the software.

Hi Dylanlewis2000,
I currently have 2 2Gbyte CFs but I would like to buy a new greater CF, more than 8Gbyte I think. Do you use a 32Gbyte on the XTi/400D? May you indicate me what type you have (brand and features)? How did you solved the problem to install this hack on it?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Dinifra!

I have a couple of cards a few 4gb and one or two 2gb cards. I used card tricks 1.44 to format the cards and make them bootable. I recently bought a Transcend 32gb 133x card. The card itsself is fairly good, it takes a little longer to power on and get in to a picture taking mode when you compare it to my smaller cards (Sandisk Extreme 3) but nothing thats not acceptable, to give you some idea my extreme 3 cards take around 3 seconds for the camera to boot and the Transcend takes around 5 seconds.

To make the Transcend 32gb bootable you need to download the latest version of card tricks, i think its 1.45, Google it and you should be able to find it.

I keep thinking about upgrading my 400d, but with the hack it can manage a massive ISO, and has some of the features or newer more expensive cameras but at the end of the day i cant bring myself to do it.

Thanks for your reply. I have seen this CF at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com …-TS32GCF133/dp/B0012Q2PD6 (external link)
Do you confirm that it is fully compatible with 400D and with the hack?
If yes I will be going to buy it.
Ciao
