Joe, what version did you install? What functions did you turn on?

I've been using versions of the hack for about 2 years and had had no problems for the last year.

I'm not using the scripting or intervalometer and have heard that they use a lot of battery because they are running continuously.

Hey Walt,

Pretty sure (I'm away from my PC) that it was Release 20110615-4
Not really messed with any of the settings other than experimenting with the extended AEB and using ISO 3200 & spot metering.

Thats the one I'm using. I use the grip with 2 batteries so maybe the battery loss is more noticible with a signle battery. Are you using a grip?

I'm still impressed with the number of shots I can take with 1 pair of batteries so I've not experienced any problems. Although I have heard that others have.

Yeah, a grip with two batteries mate - I'm starting to believe that these batts wearing down is what caused the lock-up as the camera has been fine since. I'll try and replicate it hopefully soon.

Checking back in, rocked the CHDK hack on a paid gig and was impressed with the 3200 performance.

I'm away on a trip & I shot around 350 pics and upon opening the card on the pc I see that there are random bunches of them only saved as CR2's and not CR2's and JPEG's.

I checked the camera and saw that in full auto mode the quality setting had switched to RAW only.. ?
I'm pretty sure when the 400D is in full auto, you can't even select RAW only from the menu..? At least, I can't. I see it now switches to RAW only whenever I turn the camera off and on again (see below pics).

When I go into the quailty menu, there's no setting for RAW only in full auto, but it remains so. I can change it to say, L, but after powering down/up it's back to RAW again.

Anyone have a clue what's going on? I'm away from home and wanted to bung these pics to family but they wouldn't know a CR2 if it hit them in the face so I've got to start faffing about to make a bunch of JPEG's from them now - not easiest with all my software at home!

.:edit:. Thank goodness for Faststone Image Viewer's batch processing feature :D

.:edit:. edit no2 - I see I can actually switch on and off again to flip between RAW only and L. So switch on and it's RAW in full auto. Switch off and on again and It's L. Off and on again and it's RAW etc. I'm guessing this is actually a feature.
:o

Sweet.

They are almost finished adding Auto-ISO back into the 400DPlus hack. Probably be released in the next 2 or 3 days.

Milky Joe, one of the feautres of the Hack is you can set it to RAW in any mode.

Put your camera in the Green box mode and press the AV/+- button on the back

It will switch between raw and jpeg.

Thanks Walt. I had *just* read that and had returned to further edit my post.
Nice.

The auto ISO setting sounds very cool. Cheers for the heads up.

Ok, been using this for a few days with zero problems. Come today and my daughter's birthday party and the camera locked up when firing, which was particularly annoying.
Battery out to reset, & image not taken/saved. :(
Fire again and it locks up again. Changed card and no different - still locked up.
Changed battery and all ok, but other battery showing 3 bars?

Has anyone seen unstable behaviour with a low battery? Anyone noticed bars not going down when the battery is depleting?
And anyone successfully used the method in Walt's post to remove test fir.bin

I don't want to lose ISO 3200, but if its no good if I don't feel I can rely on it 100%.

hi,
i had the same thing happen to me, except on my non-hacked 400d (i had 2).. My original 400d that i bought new i never hacked, a second hand well-used 400d that i bought as a backup i hacked. On a recent trip away, the original was playing up.. i think it had to do with the battery grip, so if i was you, i wouldnt get rid of ISO3200 just yet :)

Thanks. I've not managed to duplicate it yet, I'm still on holiday so have tended to keep on top of the batteries.
Have to say though, I shot onto a street at midnight from a hotel balcony 5 floors up and the resulting pic was pretty damn impressive at 3200. I'd really miss it now.

Latest version is out - Auto-ISO back in

•AutoISO.
•Intermediate ISOs reworked: 1/8 EV resolution, false ISO-3200 removed.
•Translations saved in a separate INI file (please, see the translators' guide if you are willing to collaborate).
•All three possible file formats (JPEG, RAW, RAW+JPEG) available in AUTO modes.
•New shortcut: color temperature.
•Rolling menus.
•Debug on power-on and log file mode selection.
