I looked into this Magic Lantern thing and it just seems to geared towards video.

Does anyone who have it know if it affect stills as well?

I'm more interested in features like dialing the white balance by entering a kelvin value instead of choosing from the presets listed in the camera.

Magic Lantern doesn't work on the 400D so you won't find much experience with it in this thread.

The 400D hack this thread is following allows you to dial in the Kelvin

Thanks! =)

You need a card reader.

You could probably copy the files OK but you need to run an app on your MAC that makes the card bootable. For that you need the card reader.

Walt. I've been using the old Hack for awhile now, Spot Metering and ISO hack, from what I read do I use the 400plus-20110904-0.bin.zip file and replace the autoexec.bin file on my card?

probably a dumb question, just want to make sure I get it right.:o

Thanks!

Yup, thats pretty much it. Unzip that file and you'll see the autoexec.bin file in it - just replace the one on your CF card.

You should really download the new instructions for all the new features.

In the last version beyond the AUTOEXEC.BIN you will find also another file that I guessed you need to import on the same directory on the card.

Thats languages.ini

Only needed if you want to have the 440plus menu in a language other than that supported natively by your camera.

Also, you'll see that the hack also creates files on your card in the same folder as autoexec.bin. They contain your settings and preset names and other stuff that you set up in the hack. Normally you can just leave them there and over-write the autoexec.bin file that way you don't lose all your settings.

Hi,
I use the hack since a lot of tome and I installed all the updated version so far. After installed the latest I cannot download the images from the camera towards the pc by USB port, the camera is not recognized more. Some suggestions?
I tried also to reinstall all the Canon suite on my PC but nothing.
My PC is Windows XP SP3 perfectly running.

Do you have a card without the hack on it? I would try that because the first thing to do is make sure the hack is whats causing the problem.

There is also a way (in the latest version of the hack) to undo the hack and turn it off.

In another thread, I suggested you have a problem with your USB drivers. Did my suggestions there, that you were going to try help at all?

Finally I solved unistalling any Canon product and reinstalling them again. The strange thing was that even after the reinstallation the camera was not recognizable but after several attempts at the end my PC recognized the camera. It was very strange but I tried to navigate in the hack menu in order to find something useful for my problem. After having navigated all the menu the camera was recognized.
Very strange.
Thanks

Hmmm - glad it worked out for you but it would be nice to know what caused it - and what fixed it.

Strange indeed.
