Candid, with spit toning, what do you think? Comments and critique very much appreciated.

Doesn't do a great deal for me with his dirty fingers as the focal point, if i'm honest.

My first thought was why is his hand the focal point?

Canon 5D MkII gripped, Canon 7D gripped, Canon 40D gripped, Canon XTI (IR) gripped, Canon 17-55 2.8 IS, Canon 60 Macro 2.8, Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS , Canon 24-105 4.0, Tokina 11-16 2.8, Canon 50mm 1.8, Sekonic L-358, Canon Speedlite 580-EX II, (2)430-EX, Pocket Wizards, lots of other stuff that seems to keep growing...

For me this is telling a complete story. The man, who works with his hands, is enjoying a drink and a cigarette after work. We dont need to have sharp focus on the drink or the face (in this case) to convey the story, they are 'impressionist'. What brings this home is his hands. This is what makes me try to sort it all out. That the hands are sharp so we can see the 'grit' tells me that he deserves the moment of relaxation.

I like this a lot.

I struggled with this shot as well so I put it up for more opinions and I appreciate them all.

When I reviewed it on camera I almost deleted it, but when I got home I kept coming back to it. I could not leave it alone. I took a few that had his face in focus but this one seemed to have more of an impact on me, like Christopher said above, I think it tells a great story. To me the face being not entirely in focus adds a layer of mystery to what he might be plotting.

By the way this is my cousin who is a hard working mechanic. Shot with my 50D and Rokkor 58 1.4.

And thanks again for looking, I look forward to more comments.
