Very nice! I like the colours - and the framing is quite agreeable :)

Nice shot, love the evening light.

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade. -Yeats

I have been out fighting the NASTY mosquitos here in Michigan trying to capture a few bucks -- they say that spikes like that never become monsters - if they have great genes for large racks they tend to be 6 or 8 points early -- I have photographed a few very young bucks recently with 6-8 points --
Thanks for sharing - best of luck on the hunt!

Exactly, it might become a big bodied deer but I doubt it will ever have a big rack. Nice shot and good looking deer nonetheless.

Thanks to all for the comments.

Actually on the "once a spike, always a spike" deal. Mississippi State University, I think its the University of Texas and a number of other major universities and deer research centers have proven that to be rumor, they have tagged, monitored, and recorded the growth of wild deer and penned deer and found that most turn into normal bucks in time. Some have even reached record class size at age 5 and 6.

Thanks again for the comments. Have a blessed day!!

I love it. I headed out to shoot some deer, but like mentioned above I had to tie the gear down so the skeeters didn't carry my "L" away. Even though the deer isn't a trophy the picture sure is.

Good info.
I have also heard that if a buck reaches the age of 3 the odds are it will die of old age (seems that is when they get very smart -- as some of us know)

not exactly an "opening weekend" bowhunting buck, but i love the pic/colors/lighting/composition. :)

bowhunting starts up soon here, and i'm debating if i wanna try to lug my 135mm along (along with the bow and other actual hunting gear) to try and snag a few shots of the ones i decide to pass on. :)

dipps -- I am actually considering setting my bow down this year and just taking my camera. I find it hard to do both-- when I am out with the bow I never want to move or make noise -- and never take any photos.

that's why i'm somewhat deliberating..... don't wanna spook any deer while sitting in my stand. if i think there's a deer nearby at end of season, i'll sit there well past dark to try and avoid spooking any possible future game.

on the flipside, i'm afraid to put the bow down and just take the camera, cuz that'll be the time that the monster buck finally shows up.

we'll see. just picked up a dozen new arrows last night, gonna be hittin' the 3D range a few more times over the next couple weeks, looking forward to getting out there again. my 9yo daughter has interest in going along to sit with me this year, so should be interesting..... especially the first night we walk out of the woods when it's dark out. :)

if your 9 yo will be sitting with you -- you might as well just bring your camera. Trust me I have experience with 9 yo's :)

Yea- it is a tough decision for me - I typically get one wall hanger every year-- I actually have so many that I kind of have it out of my system and am thinking about just focusing on trying to get photos vs mounts. I realized for me that I can't do both-- I never set the bow down to use the camera-- but realize a huge monster might come walking out and all I come home with is a blurry photo.

 i think my 9yo would be pretty good.... my 7yo though, she needs to wait a year or two yet. :)

i've gotten a couple good ones over the years, but mostly from years back (pre-college days, when i still lived out in the country with my mom, and i could walk out to my hunting spot rather than have to drive 20 miles to one, lol). last couple years, not so much. so much going on. i get out maybe 6 or 7 times each early bow season, which sucks (due to work, i normally don't get a chance to hunt during weekdays, only weekends, and it seems our weekends don't start to slow down until AFTER bow season is nearly over  ).

am thinking about just focusing on trying to get photos vs mounts.

not a bad way to go about things. much cheaper, too, nowadays. lol
