Can't even compare to encounters with bears in the wilderness...

I almost got eaten by a shark...(At Universal Studios...LOL)

Taken right before my cat went all crazy on me...

oh....so you think the bear story is a one-off fluke :D?

how about stage three of the tour of california this year? i've shot the stage 3 sierra road climb in milpitas the previous three years and i wasn't going to miss this year because of a "little" freezing cold rain :D.

we hiked up sierra road to our usual spot about two miles up, probably about a 1500 ft. gain.

this year was a big deal because lance armstrong made his comeback but also because the biggest racers in europe -- fabian cancellara, levi leipheimer, tom boonen, frank and andy schleck, mark cavendish etc etc -- contest the race.

i catch the racers as they come off the steepest part of the climb. i have my id mark III + 70-200L f4 IS under a poncho when i'm not shooting. there are no extras bodies or lenses today. it's a one-lens sort of day :D.

there are other photograhers on the climb, the toughest in the 8-day race.

that's lance at the right with the yellow and black helmet being "sheltered" by grim-faced astana domestiques ..........

and DFL is phil southerland from team type 1, his face covered with road grit thrown up by the wheels he has fought to cling to on the nasty sierra road climb.....

I took this while white water rafting...

IMAGE: http://nicksan.zenfolio.com/img/v4/p504970867-4.jpg

Not really...I was safely on shore...It would have been a story in ruggedness had I fallen into the violent river...

You win Ed. ;)

I had to stop my jeep at the police line, run about 150 yards and snap the pic before he got the car out of the puddle it was in. No time for rain gear (for me or the camera) or to switch the lens to the 50D. Everything got pretty wet, but is none the worse for the wear.

Does a sand storm on the beach count as rugged? (OK, I am getting desperate to prove my manhood here...)
