My biggest fear is getting a piece of dust on the front element and not seeing it before I wipe it with my microfiber cloth, thus causing the dust particle to scratch my delicate front element. I'm terrified of THAT, after reading around this forum a bit, but none of this other wussy stuff.

Your front element is not that delicate. Not even close.

Ed...your story about the bears is both amazing and scary in the extreme. You're clearly insane! My kinda guy!!!!
:D

So, to join the fun in an ordinary downpour way, here's a shot from my son's sports day last autumn. (Not him in the pic, but one of his mates - I just love the expression).

It was a terrible day for school sports, but this being Japan, they don't change their plans easily....if you know what I mean!

30D and 100-400 = no problems at all. As Kenji said before, it's a great little body!

Yeah, I know. I was pretty much kidding. But from reading all of the "lens cleaning" threads on here, it would seem I'm a wild man in my lens cleaning habits and should live in blood chilling terror at all times.

Yeh the 100-400 isnt even as delicate as some claim it is!

Hard to tell but i took these in the pouring rain with my 100-400

Your ******* joking right!?

Mine don't compare to most here but while shooting a friends wedding, just before the posed shots it started to downpour. Not wanting them to get drenched in their dress blues I ran out into the rain with a 30D + 70-200 f/2.8L IS. Both were soaked but no problems came from it.

:D Messin' with you guys - this is Universal Studios - Hollywood - they had a scene all staged out from the movie War Of The Worlds with Tom Cruise ... I had a bunch of my friends going with these pictures, some of them didn't talk to me for a while but got over it. :D

Hahah, I knew it! I was going to mention something about it looking freakishly similar to that scene.

Here are some shot of the miraculous plane crash I survived a couple of years back - BOEING 777 in route to Rome, Italy ... had my 40D in my lap at the time of the crash.

Uhm... that's a Boeing 747. The tripple 7 has a 2 4 2 , or 2 5 2 seat configuration. This one is 3 4 3. On boeings, only 747s have that config.

Weatherproof gear is great. As long as you remember to keep the front element clear... D'oh!

Not necessarily. Some Emirates 777s, for example, have 3-4-3 in economy, tapering off to 2-4-2 at the back (as in the picture).
