sweet combo, the 50 and 40D....
Picked up a nice 50/1.4 MF Nikkor and got this with the 40D @ ISO 640....and am so pleased with the tones...and with her stare...

Yeah, a little to be sure...it was an outside shot under an awning...streetside cafe....
Little to be done without flash fill and that just looked, well, flashy....
the background street scene wasn't much anyway....a distraction really, but...
I could burn her hair a bit more on her left side....

Cropped the ear, darkened the right side hair, reduced some yellow....

Can't help you there...shows no such effects here, not on either of my monitors...not on the 22" CRT nor 15" LCD on this lappie...what you're seeing is a 100% crop now, so maybe that's to be considered....
