I think both are nice. Nice shot.

Here's my attempt, this is just my style of photoshop, I know everyone does it differently...
-Levels
-Desaturated a bit
-Lightened up her eyes
-Added vignette

I LIKE the vignetting...why didn't I think of that!
I desaturated (reduced yellow) the 2nd version, and lightened the eyes too!!!
Thanks Paul....

Too much ISO, my opinion. Like stated grain is really showing in your second edit. And for me that tight of a crop, those eyes need to be tack sharp.

One of the problems with posting photos on the net is that everyone's else's monitor could display the image differently from my home monitor...

I've noticed that the discrepancy is particularly noticable when comparing an LCD to a CRT display that hides pixel better... I don't know what your monitor is, but at 22", my CRT (Mitsubishi shadowmask) is just softer looking I guess than yours...it's why I've put off getting an LCD for my PC...I got a DLP HDTV for the same reason...I'm distracted by the "screen-door" effect of LCDs up close....anyway....

...whatever grain you (and Phil) see doesn't show up on my monitors, nor on a 5x7 print...and not even when zoomed to 125% and 20" high jawline to eyebrows, on that 50" Samsung tv....

As for sharpness, I can count her every eyelash and evey hair on her brows, and see her pink scar above her right eye on my monitor and my print, so despite the apparent softness of the CRT monitors, the image, appears here to be tack sharp, even as a 100% crop...

I do appreciate your comments, and I'm not defensive...so I hope you won't be...I'm just trying to explain how the image appears here at this end, on the monitors and out of the printer...

Heard that man. I know how it goes. I threw some photos up on a local board and got thrashed just two weeks ago. I looked and looked and thought well my pictures look just fine.

I probably should have put that in there... A picture may look a little off on a monitor, but if your printing it and its there, thats all that matters.

Yeah, that's what I figure...start with the print and work backwards...kinda...
everytime I get a new printer I have to play with IT to get the colors to match up...too pink or too red or not enough saturation, contrast....it's always something.......among the other variables is using Epson paper on a Canon printer...just another variable...and I have a drawer full of Epson paper....
...but too much grain/noise usually isn't an issue when going from display to print...

...it is true OTOH that print are usually SOFTER than displayed images, which is why an image displayed on the net IS often too sharp/noisy if it is the same sharpness settings as for printing....
