Stumbled into my state bird (New Jersey) today, and this guy was very friendly. He made eye contact with me at close range, but felt comfortable and kept up with his busy routine. He was making quite a mess yanking out tons of Thistle down!

Had to bump this up to ISO 1000 on my 40D, in my best efforts to freeze the action. The Thistle was flying all over the place!

That's a great shot Dave...a lot of fun watching goldfinches pull seeds out. Our thistle here is almost gone.

Thanks Steve, Norman, Vulcan, and Art.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for goldfinches, such pleasant and animated birds.

Great fun watching them dismatle these heads. It looks like they are doing it for fun, cause the seeds are so small you can't see them. :)

You're right Mitch, he did appear like he was having fun and a happy individual. Then again, life is probably good for a cute, fast, yellow bird, hah.
