Thinking about picking up a monopod and I've noticed these 2 monopods are mentioned from time to time on the forums. There isn't much of a cost difference between the two. The manfrotto goes for around $61 and the benro looks like it goes for around $90 overseas. Being a monopod would I really notice the difference in weight? I noticed the Benro has 5 sections and is pretty short when retracted. This seems like a nice advantage but at the moment I can't imagine how I'd like to carry a monopod.

Anybody have any opinions on these two monopods or suggest another to consider?

the benro is my favorite monopod made. light, short and sturdy. i had the 2541 gitzo and sold it at a $100 loss mainly because it was too long (and heavier). i think that about says it all :D.

I have the 680B - very sturdy. I personally prefer flip locks over twisters. The Benro is lighter and shorter than the 680B when closed, a plus for it. It's also shorter by 2.5" at full extension, which is a downside if you're tall.

I also have a 680B, and I've been quite happy with it when mated with a 3229 swivel head. It's proven itself sturdy and dependable so far, and I personally prefer the snap locks rather than twist locks, but that's my own vice, I suppose.

The Benro would, indeed be a bit lighter and more compact when closed up.

I have the Benro 91, not just because of height, but also for the "tripod" feet. They're very handy if the conditions are right. I'd definitely buy the 91 again.

Oh, and I'd go for the twist-locks. They're much faster and don't stick out like flip-locks do.
