For this week's Macro DSLR Speed Challenge, the topic is:
"The Little Things in Life"

We all have little trinkets, toys, tchotchkes and such in our homes. Your challenge this week is pick one of your favorites (or a photogenic one) and show it to us. I'm looking for creativity in composition and lighting in this challenge. I'm sure your "little thing" is special to you, so photograph it in a way that makes it special to us!

I thought this might be an interesting topic for a macro contest! :)

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR camera
2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).
3. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
4. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
5. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
6. Posting -
* ONE MACRO PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
* Photo Name/Title in the message.
* Camera model & lens used in the message.
* Post brief Exif data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used in the message.
* Notes - anything you feel you need to explain.
7. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
8. Questions - Use PM
9. Have FUN! :)

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 9:00 PM Eastern Thursday, September 3rd, 2009. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

Ok, I'll start. Not my favorite trinket, but a true favorite of a friend that is no longer around. Miniature versions.

Thanks to all who participated in "The little things in life" challenge. I'll keep these kinda short since I have some work to get back to.

Samueli - "Macross Miniature" A nice imaginative shot and a good kickoff to the challenge. Good depth of field and lighting too.

BadgerW and "Blue Beethoven Bust". You did a good job of capturing the detail in the item, and the lighting looked to be just right with the right amount of shadow on the left side and no blown highlights on the right. I imagine that was a little tricky to do.

JohnB and "Love Rings" - I'm guessing these are your wedding bands? Great detail and lighting. I'm not sure if the reflection in the ring is an assett or a hindrance to the shot. Part of me likes the depth it brings and part of me finds it a tad distracting. I did find myself looking into it to see what I could see. I think I can make out what looks to be your tripod. :)

Flo and "Dwarfed by his Nose" - This one made me laugh, Gail. I like the way you framed the shot with the nose as the subject. With the shallow depth of field, the picture really reflects the title! :)

fryefoto and "Tarnished Time" - I'm not sure if it's PP or the actual image as shot, but I like the old time feel of the photo. It fits in well with the subject of the old watch. Nice focus on the minute hand!

Monty and "Double Dragon" - A great last minute entry. I like the black background and the way the figurine really stands out. Great lighting, detail and composition! If I had this in my room, I'd probably have nightmares though.

And the winner this week is Monty and "Double Dragon"! I liked this shot as soon as I saw it.
Second goes to samueli and "Macross Miniature"
and Third goes to Flo and "Dwarfed by his Nose"

Thanks again to all who participated this week!

I always think that coming up with the topic would be harder than judging, but good luck with both! ;)

Thank you!

I liked everyones entries. This was a cool contest. I think it forced a different perspective on macro. I had fun.

Beautiful images all!! Congrats monty, samueli, and Flo =)
Thanks for the C&C lavanut. It is my Grandmothers pendant watch. It is badly tarnished and I considered polishing it, but then thought it might look kinda neat as a monochrome so I converted it in Hue and Sat. Thanks for another great challenge.
