Main difference is the grounding rod thing that is required for V1. I would buy V2 for that reason alone.

Actually, they should both be grounded for best operation, as should every other doggone such device--Buff is the only one that will tell you about it. Failing to ground could cause problems with some kinds of electronic flash systems that need a true ground connection. It can also cause problems in high static situations, because the flash can't drain static electricity to true ground.

The V2 has a GFCI-equipped outlet that at least won't electrocute you.

The V1 comes with a wire-connected clip-on grounding rod so that you can either push the rod into dirt or connect it to something like a metal fence pole. The V2 has a connection for a grounding rod, but does not come with the rod itself.

I have the V1. The grounding rod is actually a giant bolt you can push/screw into the ground. You attach a cable from the inverters to it via alligator clip. The v1 has two inverters, instead of one and they can be used together or separately. Its a little more clunky than the v2, but for the right price I wouldnt worry about getting the v1.
