From last night. The storm was a long way off but some of the lightning got fairly close.
If I could only predict where it would strike, the framing would be better!

Both are nicely done. Good job.

#2 is great. The shutter speed wasn't set too long was it? because your clouds look sharp

Wow...very good work! #2 takes the cake. I really havent seen a shot that crisp and well composed in a long time. Mind telling us your setup and how you managed to catch such a nicely zoomed shot.

one word "wow" #2 frame and hang That 50 1.4 seems to be a very sharp lens

I prefer to be in the bush with the animals than a crowded city.

Thanks to all for your kind comments.
It was really quite a storm but it was many miles away.
This photo gives more perspective. The hills where the lightning appears to be are more than twenty miles away.

And an uncropped version of photo #2.
I panned up above the horizion and to the left but it's a 50mm 1.4, not a zoom.
Basically, ISO 100, f5.6, a bulb setting, tripod and a cable release.
It's like fishing. You cast out and wait for a strike. Better results are usually under 30 seconds but if you set the camera for a 30 second exposure you might miss that bolt at 32 seconds!
