Thank you all for responding so quickly to a cry in the wilderness to help a fellow POTNer. You are a truly kind and caring crew.

I was also thinking about getting this classified as a photographic disability so I could qualify for the government to force the rest of you to buy my equipment for me. On the other hand, there are loads of P&S people who would then be entitled to a 450D and an L Lens from me. HMMMM.

"Socialized Photography" ?

Personally, I'm against it...

I woke up this morning, drove to work, had my coffee, fired up the computer and came here. As I always do, I browsed the "For Sale" thread and it suddenly hit me:

I don't want anything else right now. I have no piece of equipment that I need or want or will improve my photography.

I love the 450D, the 24-105L and the 70-200 f4 IS. I can get along fine with the 18-55 IS for my widest frames. My stuff is perfect for what I'm shooting and the limits of my equipment far exceed my limits as a photographer. MY GOD - have I been afflicted with Equipment Satisfaction Syndrome?

Please donate to stamp out this affliction. Maybe help get a stimulus grant from the boneheads in DC.

Somebody Do Something

You've had a Eureka moment!
You need a new hobby. A new challenge. A new means of emptying your wallet regularly. A new lie. A new reason to work. A new reason to dream.

I'm in the same position. No equipment-envy. Kit for sale only because I've got too much. Nothing I want. AND.... I know I'm not going to live forever and I can't take anything with me!!

Oh Lord, I too have reached this state of bliss! But, alas ignorance is bliss, and bliss is happiness. Can I truly be happy with just what I have?

Ding Ding, Oh damn! It's my credit card calling!

You're suffering from EOS
Equipment Obsession Syndrome.

A very compulsive disorder, akin to walking into shops backwards and putting things down - aka, a maniokleptic.

OK, I'll get me coat.......

Have you checked out the Elinchrom or Alien Bees websites lately? Studio lighting gives you a whole bunch of addition skills to master. (Just in case you get bored with all of the other skills required of a photographer.)

If you are currently happy with your 450D, what ever you do don't shoot with a 1DmkII or above! I did this when I had a 20D and I've been drooling over 8.5 fps every since.

You need a new computer.

That's coming in October when Windows 7 goes RTM

You need a new monitor.

As a matter of fact, just ordered one today. A refurb Dell 2209WA whci I'm told is the cat's nuts for image editing (at least below the mega dollar level). I don't think it counts as "photography equipment" though.

Have you checked out the Elinchrom or Alien Bees websites lately? Studio lighting gives you a whole bunch of addition skills to master. (Just in case you get bored with all of the other skills required of a photographer.)

I agree. But one of my first statements was that my equipment is already way better than my skills at this point. I think that's part of my case of ESS knowing I can go another year or two just to semi-master what's already here.

Do I sniff somebody who wants to sell one??

Any of the 1Ds would be like letting a tractor driver loose in a ferrari. The techology is great but useless if third is the top gear used. Thanks for the very complimentary thought though.

I'm sorry everyone but John's had quiet enough excitement for one day and he has to return to the cloister now.

John, the Monks are waiting for you in the great room. Time to chant...
