Thanks Jay.

I'm going back to my cell and rest now. The rice paper can wait.

That's coming in October when Windows 7 goes RTM

As a matter of fact, just ordered one today. A refurb Dell 2209WA whci I'm told is the cat's nuts for image editing (at least below the mega dollar level). I don't think it counts as "photography equipment" though.

I've been patiently waiting for W7 too...to skip Vista....looks like it's going to be a good PC xmas buying/selliing season....
I'm using a 22" Compaq/Mitsubishi flatscreen 4x3 CRT that is so clean...and huuuuge...nothing less than a 24" wide screen will take its place...
If I need to work on some reeeeallly small detail and need a reeeeallllly big screen, I settle back in my comfy lounge chair and use my 50" Sammy TV :D on which I watch net downloaded movies/tv shows...very sweet.

Not sure why this would be so Kevin. The sensors in the 450D/40D and the 500D/50D, respectively, are the same.

For me, the 450D:

Fits my use - I like to travel light and the 450D doesn't need it's own house and trailer to lug around.
Fit's my hand - I handled the 40D and it's too big for me to hold comfortably. I assume the 50D would be likewise. The 450D snugs right in.
Fits my Budget - I spent a year on here before moving up from my S5IS. The 450D let me put more money into good glass more quickly. After all, isn't serious photography 'Glass over Body" even for hobbyists.

Kita, - You may be right about the buying season. I know a lot of people who have skipped Vista. If I could get new hardware with XP Pro, I'd have bought it already.

R U saying that the sensors in and XTI and a 50D are the same? or even Close? They are 2 generations apart.

I have both and leemme tell you they are worlds apart....
I must have larger hands than you because a 50d fits and feels alot more comfortable and easier to control than the rebel....
Glass over body , yah sure....but you have 2 Ls already....:P

Never shot the 50D so I have no idea about IQ.

The 450D is the XSi and it's one generation back with Digic 3 instead of 4. As for hand fit, the rebel series fits me better. The reason I have the 2 Ls is that's how I chose to set up. Less money to body, more to glass.

And yes, I am satisfied with the XSi.

You've just acheived the photographic equivalent of snatching the pebble and walking on the rice paper without leaving footprints.

All that's left now: Lifting the flaming cauldron with your forearms so you get the twin Canon Logos seared into your flesh and you're pretty much out the door of this monistary.

Go forth and photograph Grasshopper...

^^^That is perfect Jay. Barefoot out of the monastery through the Himalayas...

You need a new monitor.

that's actually the biggest and most important upgrade i'll bet the majority of folks can make.

.... I WANT every lens canon makes, two each, for backup. But that's just me.
