I hate to bump this but I just wanted to add my experience with the flextt5 so noone else does the same thing... I have like 5 flextt5s and two minitt1s, the other day I mounted a 580ex II on one of the flex units and I squeezed the little knob to tighten the mount and guess what... the pressure lifted the little metal guide that the flash was on and broke two of the side screws inside... so it is most definitive a DESIGN FLAW... I call them up to check up on what to do... They told me to send it in to have them look at it and gave me a hard time for bringing them out of the country (I am in Europe) as there is a more expensive unit designed for Europe and Japan!?!?!

long story short, I took the little thing apart, the little rectangular mount slides out with a strip cable... took that apart... a bunch of springs inside... found the lose screws... tried to get them back but the male part of the screw is just to short... so I just welded the whole thing together... it works now but I am worried about the other units as I can not tighten the flashes to the units more than half the way... be careful!!!

The exact response to this feeling, from Patrick at pocket wizard

was something along the lines of "they have more screws in a smaller device with tighter tolerances than anything else PW has ever made"

But hey, what do they know ;)

Interesting. I've dropped my Plus II's many times and they seem pretty durable. Every now and again the antenna gets bent and that's as simple to fix as opening up the PW and bending the coiled copper antenna straight again.

I've never had the foot break although I've expected that a few times.

how to replace a FlexTT5's foot yourself . . .

if the screw's too short it's very possibly a goof-up in assembly.

yeah, but it's not like you're mounting a 580exII on top a Plus II.

That's the plastic foot on the bottom of the TT5 what we are discussing is the metal hotshoe on the top of the TT5 being separated from the unit.

Yes, but you were making a point that the short screws were a manufacturing defect. The screws that hold the hotshoe in place are very short. I found this out when I took that unit apart.

Exactly. That is what I said above... although I can not understand that as there is plenty of space in that little box...
