My first ever shots with a digital SLR, I have only ever used point and shoots and a 35mm SLR. I took it with a Canon EOS 350D with the standard 18-55mm lens in 'Auto' mode. The car is my uncles and the shots have just been touched slightly in iPhoto. They were taken in VERY low light conditions. Please just tell me what you think of them and how I can improve my technique.

You shot under cloud so you don't have any real reflection problems and your background isn't too "loud" or invasive. I think the biggest thing I would do is give the car room to "breathe" both at the top and sides of the picture.

Look up the "rule of thirds". It doesn't necessarily apply to all car shots but typically you do want a bit of offset of some sort for a car in a photo.

Straighten the wheels in #1.

They're OK, but you've got to get off Auto if you want to have better options for PP. Try this:
Need an exposure crutch?

If you turn on "Image Editing OK" in your user prefs, I'll show you what I mean. Or you could look at the bottom of this thread: '83 Camaro Z28 Pro Street 502 Part #1

I was only on auto to just test things out, all the photos I took on the 35mm were of racing, so I just used a fast shutter speed and let the camera choose the aperture. I have turned image editing ok on so could you show me what you meant please?

Should I put the uncropped ones up?

Here are the originals, you can then see what I have done.

You can see that in both I got rid of the tax disk and residents permits etc. In the second, I touched out the odd patch of darker condensation on the bonnet, was this the right thing to do or not?

Parked in front of a different background, that's going to be the subject of some nice pictures :)

I just noticed that your file is in CameraRGB, instead of aRGB.

I'm out of town on my laptop. This is about what I'd try for if I could have two conversions from RAW, as I show at the bottom of my link above.

EDIT: You're probably using a non-color managed browser, so what you see will be darker & more contrasty than what I see. See the link in my Sig.
