Hi All

I bought the grip for my 40D, fitted it this morning and would offer this first 'use' feedback.

1) The balance overall is improved

2) Tightened the grip to the pinch point only with care but I did find that squeezing the grip & body very slightly overcomes the spring loading and allows the grip 'tightness' to be correct IMO i.e. there is no need to turn the wheel other than finger tight.

3) The ergonomics ~ vertical use should be better and less of a strain on the right arm for prolonged use

4) I do wish they had made it with the AF-On button as my thumb more naturally falls 'there'.

5) Having seen the design of the new Sony A850 grip with its odd looking offset hand position I can see why Sony have made it that way. The BG-E2N grip though it will relieve strain on the right arm caused by prolonged use of vertical position without a grip but still IMO puts ones arm in an unnatural position ~ not bad just different because it re emphasises the need for best holding technique i.e. the weight of the camera/lens combo is taken by the left hand and with the grip there is for me even less actual 'grip' with the right hand. I found that to control the AF-On function (switched to the AE Lock button in the menu settings) and the shutter button & wheel meant my palm was not in full contact with the grip body.

As I say just initial thoughts before I use it out & about and for an upcoming shoot where almost 100% vertical use will be required.

:)

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p
