Well, finally got my stuff back Friday... And behold a dismal dark day it was too I had to try it out regardless of the weather... It rained all day today... I think it may be fixed this time but better lighting will tell... I tried to salvage a few shots from yesterdays dreary day as they are not the sharpest they could be...

Thanks Mtn Breeze... This was the third time my lens and camera made it back to Canon Repair, once by themselves and twice together because of focus issues.. First time the lens went, the replaced the USM assembly, wasn't working correctly.. It took a month this time to get it back this time, instead of a week... The focus problems were happening intermittently... Here's what they said the last time..

Service details Camera: It was found that the adjustment of the part (what part?) was incorrect causing rear focus from time to time... The part was reworked.. All adjustments and corresponding testing have been completed to Canon factory standards...

Service details Lens: We have examined the product according to your request, causing rear focus from time to time.. Adjusted back focus with body, check all..

Hmpphhh.....sounds like similar experience to mine. Owned my 100-400 nine months, back to Canon N.Z. three times, toatlling three months. Third time they wanted to replace AF drive assembly..........which they'd ALREADY done on the second visit. Slack service, slack communications, slack in-house communications etc. vmad Finally got hold of repairs manager on friday and am now getting a new replacement lens.

Hope yours holds up this time !!!

Cheers,

Matt.

Your lucky you can get a replacement lens, I was told by Canon support that Canon Repair could not authorize a replacement... If this should make it back again, I will demand they replace it... I had already told them it was defective the second time it went back... All I need is a good day for optimal picture taking to find out.. One more thing... The supervisor said this time, the problem was mostly with the body.... They keep going back and forth... BTW: I purchased the 400mm lens on 4/17/09

Look a bit soft, could it be the moisture in the air is degrading the images.

I agree with Artman....they look a bit soft Norman. Care to post a full size image?

I have had nothing but good things to say about Canon customer support (NJ facility). I'm sorry you've had to go through this.

I did say they were not the sharpest!!! It was minutes away from down pouring as it was very dark and quite possibly the moisture did have some influence as well..

Don't put too much credence in the details report. I snapped my 10-22 lens in half and the details read: "Lens does not autofocus." No foolin'!

The finch looks pretty sharp. How much did you crop and what kind of processing did you do?
