I think that it is important to understand what you are getting in that deal. With the 5D2 any lens or filter that you put on it is going to show off the faults of that lens or filter. If you want to purchase a great camera make sure that you pair it with great equipment. If you only want mediocre lens and filters then don't spend so much on a body.

I presently have a 40D with a hand full of off brand lenses ( Tokina and Sigma -- See gear list in Sig.). I want to buy a 5D really bad. I started on film, left the hobby for years and came back and got somewhat comfortable with a full sized body, but not so comfortable with a cropped sensor.

Can someone please expand on this, considering the lenses I own, aside from the Tokina, which I plan to replace with a Sigma 12-24, and possibly adding either a Sigma 150-500, 0r if I can find a decent one a sigma 300mm F/2.8.

I like the quality of images the Sigma's, and the Tokina for that matter give me with the 40D. Will I be dis-appointed with the same lineup with a 5D, or will they hold up?

I'm purely a hobbyist, basically not even artistic, and not that good with a camera, but I'm starting to learn it again as I go along. ( Thank god for digital, and Chimpers Anonymous.)

What do you think?

40D is a decent camera and lets you have a lot of control over DoF as well as faster continuous shoooting (if you ever use it).
Full frame... lenses are too expensive and as a quote states up there... its not easy to keep up with equipments.
However, if you want superior ISO/noise quality and can handle the $$$... go for it.

Other than some really cheap efs zooms, which doesn't sound like you are really interested in, the prices of efs lenses are pretty much on par with EF and even L lenses... look at the 17-55IS and the 10-22, for example.

I went to a 5D from a 40D with the lens lineup you see below. I did swap the 10-22 for the 17-40.

I can say that all my lenses appear to be sharper and focus more accurately and consistently on the 5D. Part of the "sharper" has to do with the weaker AI filter on the 5D. If a lens will suffer anywhere, it will be in the corners, so it depends what you mostly shoot. If you don't shoot panoramas, architecural and, maybe, product then it doesn't matter, imo.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

I went from a 40D to the 5D.

Would I say that it was the right choice for me? 150%.
Would I say that I see a difference in IQ right off the bat? Yep.
Do I miss anything? The AF-Point spread on the 40D was nice. You'll find that the AF points are grouped more centrally (on the 5d) because of the sensor size.
Aside from that? I miss the 40D's ability to focus in low light.

In relation to your lenses:

Get a 17-40 in place of your 10-22.
Get a 28-75 Tamron in place of a 24-70 range lens, (or get the sigma)

Its worth it in the end. I've never looked back, though the 7D is looking like an excellent second camera.
