Trying a little of Ingard's technique incorporated with mine, I'll get it down if it's the last thing I do!

I am running away from this thread after seeing the guns and rifles.

Seriously, I am looking for a 1Ds Mark II to replace my 5d. The current market price for a used 1Ds Mark II is very attractive. Are the image IQs from these two about the same?

Is this so you don't have to worry about the waves anymore?

Yeah that's one of the reasons. And I can also shoot some fast-moving ducks.

Hehe, you're not the only one thinking of the switch. You should do what I do and lurk in the 1Ds mark II thread from time to time =P

From what I understand, yeah, the IQ is about the same, but the 1DsII will be larger files.
The kicker is you get a way better focus mechanism. They say it's really quick, even in low-light situations. That's the main reason I want one. Plus they're built like a tank and weatherproof.

I definitely considered it for a time, and still do every so often. But then I see what quality the 5D is capable of and that I can shoot more more inconspicuously if I want, instead of having that monster body to lug around. You're limited to the bag you can carry the 1D/s bodies in and they don't make for a small kit to walk around a city with. That said, I'm still looking for a cheap 1DII or 1DIIN to match with my 5D for the speed.

I'd love a 1DsII, but the size and weight would drive me nuts I think. As it is my bag feels like I'm getting ready to through-hike the AT somedays. ;)

^^You guys are funny. :)

I will say that lots of people have asked me how I liked the switch...and I can't say enough about it. The noise in the 1Ds2 files, though, is a bit different in the noise from 5D files. Sometimes, I feel the 5D files are a bit more forgiving. The 1Ds2 needs lots of light...so, keep that in mind.

The user menu, double-button mode switching function, weight, etc. are something that becomes second nature, after a while. I got used to it, so it's not really an issue. One thing, remember to keep a machine with Windows XP, since I haven't had much success loading/setting the 'Personal Functions' without that OS (i.e., Vista, Win. 7). The 'Custom Functions' can be set in camera, so no worries there.

Beyond that, it's a nice body, works well, can be taken out into the rain with no issues (for the most part), produces wonderful images (as does the 5D), creates a larger file (but no 21MP stuff), and will last a long while.

PS...nice images all. Guns, Planes, people/models, smoothies, etc. :) There's too many to list in here...you know how fast this thread moves.
