You need a wide prime as well. :)

Ask yourself what do you like to shoot.

The 50mm is wide enough for me right now.. I don't really use my UWA as much as I'd think I would.
Maybe after the fisheye/85mm I will get a 35mm f/1.4L or just the 35mm f/2.0 version.

I can post it..I didn't because you don't have Image Editing approval turned on. Similar in so much in that I fixed the few flaws she has, but overall, I would say yours is a bit "smoother". I just prefer as little processing as possible.

You can post it if you like.

Hmmm....did I oversmooth?

I didn't get the eyes to pop quite like you did, but I don't have PS here at work. This was all brush work in Lightroom. Amazing how many ways there are to get to similar places! Sorry about the tinypic awful quality.

I'm a post processing noob, I wouldn't be too worried.

I do love my Lightroom brushes though. They make me feel justified in calling photography "art" :p

Nothing against your post work (I suck at it), but I think this is a good example of how good Tiffany's ninja post skills are. I think my normal workflow would have turned out about like yours. I knew that girl's skin couldn't be that perfect!

I used to be an all actions man. Honestly, I got a pretty firm handle on brushes in about a day of practicing, and can say that I use actions on <5% of my keepers now. Downside is that you spend more time doing hand edits, but overall, I think the quality is better since you're applying edits only to the areas you want.

If you ever want some guidance in that area, let me know, I'm more than happy to help you learn. Also, over in the RAW processing thread, there's a bunch of us that could help!

I may take you up on that for my prom gigs....but for now I'm happy with what I do. I do use some actions but I go through each image one by one and use a ton of layer masks. That's the hardest thing for me with LR...I love my layers!

Exactly. I hate actions that just perform the action on the "background" layer (I know I should duplicate it first, but I often forget). I love actions that do everything in separate layers, then bundle everything in a layer folder, so I can change opacities, blending modes, mask at will, etc.

Plus, I've learned a lot from using actions. If I like the effect, I'll play the action step-by-step to see what they're doing to achieve the effects. I've been able to ditch some actions because they do things I don't like, and add the parts of them I do like to my workflow.

I still suck, though. :p
