Lol here goes the photo critiques.

Why not. Its easy to say yeah that looks great all the time or you post a neg comment without any explanation. If you've work with art directors they rip constantly, its their job. ;)

mmmmmm Yes and no..lol

The original Image the eyeshadow area was lighter....Why I made it darker?

I've followed the basic rules of Make Up according to the master Kevin Aucoin...
her nose shape wasn't the greatest therefore I applied some "digital make up" to contour it
Plus her eye shadow area looks is "funny" small and "chubby" so i went for the "smoky" look
that way you can cover that "flaw"

If you notice ..she has a dominant eye (as everyone) and I did the same with "digital make up"
I attempted to correct it. Same goes to the "hot spot" in the forehead I followed the contouring
rules of make up "T zone"

Can you tell I'm taking make up lessons hahahahahahahahaha

thanks for this. if you can, or send me a pm,,interested in this as well. where are you getting the information ??

and as far as critique goes, i appreciate it when anyone can give me real constructive comments. thats why i post my shots. I know they are not as good as some of the others in here so i welcome peoples input. I want to get better and I love working with studio lighting. its a constant work in progress for me and i enjoy the learning process. so, any tips i can get and/or advise is great. try getting a certified master photographer to give you tips on lighting or let you come in and help for a week so you can improve your skills. its like trying to put your hand in front of a rattlesnake and hoping it wont bite you. ive learned a ton from people on this board and especially on the 5d forum. alejandro, geno, tiffany, and others really have helped with good solid information. i appreciate everyone here and welcome everyones thoughts and tips.

Mike,

Ok look at it like this. Either everything in the image is helping the image or hurting it. Tell me how the hair at the top and the hot spot is helping. I feel without those things its a much stronger image.

Oh and debating photographs is very good thing and how forums like this function best don't you think? As long as things aren't personal and stick to the image it all good right? We all learn a lil sump'm.

Allen

I have couple of neg comments Alejendro. Sorry..I usually love your stuff.

First, the main light is to high for her head tilt (the shadow from her brow line cutting halfway across her pupils). The really hot spot on her forehead and her hair near the top of the frame I find a bit distractive and the eyes cutting the frame in half at the 50% horizon line. A crop just slightly above the eyebrows does help.I would also tone down the skin on her shoulders a bit.

I just learned something with this! Then I learned more from Alejandro's reply.

I love this forum! :)

I'm not trying to debate anything, but its funny that you brought up the hair. A photographer I know who did a shoot for a school, he set his lights up all differently this past year, well needless to say every parent wanted a re-do because how he had set up his lights brought out all the imperfections in the hair of the children.

Now, that being said I agree/disagree with you, In most cases it isn't flattering, but I sort of like it in his photo..its a model, and its more showing that here hair doesn't have to be "perfection" although I do see the hotspots now that you pointed them out, but they don't really bother me.

Either way you have a good point. ;)

Same here man.....I've been brewed in POTN..there are some people that i will be grateful forever (SkipD, TMR...etc etc)

When I came across this site (4 yrs ago) I didn't know Shi..t about lighting and asking around was they way to learn.

I don't take offense ...at this point I know the difference between a constructive and sour milk; take the good leave the bad.

Of course I like critiques....for instance yesterday i was put in my place by Ford NY.... lol they woop my butt when they reviewed my book...I'm still sore.....

Allen, you brought up some good points. I do like it better cropped tighter but you lose some of that pretty backlight in her hair on the left then.

What really bugs me is that there is one tiny catchlight in one eye and nothing in the other.

ALE I like the newest one except for the distortion/light showing caused by the glass in the glasses on the right side of her face (as we are looking at it)

And, the socks in the heels....make her legs look kind of fat and stumpy.

But the rest is very nice!
