I shoot almost all landscapes and macro but now I've started with portrait work. I was getting into sports but it's really not for me. I do mostly still photos if that is what you're wanting to know.

The 5D will be fine then...

I guess its because Im not a "sports" photographer, but I dont even know how people can need 8fps, let alone 10fps..I can see for series shots and what not..but for anything else it seems like overkill. But then again you can just spray and pray and you'll probably get good shots even if they weren't set up.

I could see basketball would be more of a frame it, then shoot it type thing rather than spray it.

Basketball is about the only time I use the FPS to get a shot. There is so much going on in such a tight space you need the speed.

I'm not trying to debate anything, but its funny that you brought up the hair. A photographer I know who did a shoot for a school, he set his lights up all differently this past year, well needless to say every parent wanted a re-do because how he had set up his lights brought out all the imperfections in the hair of the children.

Now, that being said I agree/disagree with you, In most cases it isn't flattering, but I sort of like it in his photo..its a model, and its more showing that here hair doesn't have to be "perfection" although I do see the hotspots now that you pointed them out, but they don't really bother me.

Either way you have a good point. ;)

Whats bad about debate though? I think discussing and criticizing photographs on a photography forum is a good thing though know I'm in the minority

I think the photograph is good but theres alway a fine line between good and great and its usually little details that separate good from great. I really like most of Alejandros work A LOT and I think this one is good but misses by that much; the hair and the hot spot and that could be cured by a tighter crop.

So how does the hair and the hot spot help the image?

Sports is about the only time that I need it. A good idea of where machine gun mode comes in handy is this. Kid is cranking back for a slapshot. I can catch the whole series of the shot from stick hitting the puck, to puck going through the air, to getting in the goal if I'm lucky. Out of the 40 frames taken in that 4 seconds, I may only want 3 or 4 of the frames, but it's nice having them rather than not. Also, keep in mind the larger buffer. If I'm shooting hockey with the 5D at 3FPS, it will still take less time to fill the buffer and deal with the "Busy" and not being able to shoot, than it will with the 1D3 where it clears almost instantaneously.

I would want to do anything else (photography), well, actually, I have no other marketable skills.

Teaching is wonderful. I have taught on the college level. I used to teach an advanced portrait class at a local college and still lecture occasionally there. But I loved it. Just got to busy with the business.

What grade do you teach? Thank God for good teachers ;).

I teach Spanish grades 8-12.

I'm not the best teacher. But, it's ok. I cover what I need to but I'm not the kind to go all out and crazy and make everything about the kids. They are in my class because they need it for college so I try and make it similar to a college class.

That being said, we do still do some fun stuff and most kids do like me.

Yeah they didn't look too happy. I was trying to quietly walk by but they're "manager" (or whatever he's called) yells out "hey guys...smile for the journalist" and EVERYONE had their eyes on me. I had no choice but to yell out "Ok guys, this one's for NY1" and snap a few pics.
