Hell, I might as well join in: Happy Birthday Matt! :)
So now we have two 17 year-olds whose parents are supportive of their photography. My dad helped me quite a bit back in the day, although he didn't really understand my obsession with it. That was a lot of years ago, though, and he's no longer with us.

Thanks Brett. For some odd reason, I find these odd similarities between Connor and I, well at least judging by his "photo a day" descriptions :p My dad also gave me the push start into photography. Helped me learn his AE-1 a bit and soon I took off from there.

Happy B-Day Matt, and congrats on the lens! And, a good tripod can really transform your shooting (where it applies).

My power went off earlier -- actually, I think it was all over the neighborhood. The power company workers said someone went digging in the wrong place. I heard some sirens going off right after it happened, which could have been the digger. I live near a retirement home and emergency vehicles came there as well -- kind of scary when the power goes out for the old folks. I may cancel my reservation there:). Anyway, I have a UPS power backup, so no crashing computer, but I was still down for a couple of hours.

I train under Shihan Steve Sciandra in Forest Hills. I train in Goshin Jujitsu (traditional Japanese) not Brazilian so it's a a mix of standing (like Judo) and ground (like BJJ) styles.

Trent is a great guy, and a fantastic photographer. The way he uses light and poses his models...let's just say he has a ridiculous amount of talent. Some of his work is just levels above what I usually see.

I was curious about his claim as well, as he's pretty much a die-hard FF shooter (owning at least two 5DIIs). He does mention "up to a certain print size", but I'm not sure I'd agree. Like I said though, as good as he is, I tend to trust his word, and he did say he was surprised by the quality of the 550D.

I'll never give up FF though, in part due to shallower DoF that allows you to isolate subjects from busy, distracting backgrounds.

Why thanks :) I'm still a die hard FF fan.

I no doubt love the 5D, and did for the 3 years I owned my first one (and also second one), so it pains me to say that the 550D may actually be a better deal right now for people.

/cries in a corner.

If I can get my hands on a classic 5d, I'll do a 550D vs. 5D iso 100 test for you guys.

Very cool. I trained a little jujitsu with Charlie Robinson in California when I was like 17. Very unique style, but I wasn't wanting to get slammed on my head everyday :)

haha...my parents are the opposite, while they didn't force me to go to college, they were a bit dissapointed when I dropped out of college...but they get so frustrated when a new lens shows up at their house

But I guess I get it from my dad, since he buys tools and uses them once. :p

Holy Undies? j/k

You youngins' are so lucky, when I was your age our cell phones were still brick sized and didn't have cameras and just a few years before pagers were all the rage (I'll be turning 29 in June).

When I was their age our cell phones were two soups cans tied together with string. The reception was much better on the other hand....;) 3G my arse......
