Here's one of me..! :D

If that's a self portrait you did an amazing job getting your eyes in focus. If somebody else took it, it's just outstanding. :)

Jay, you must have been standing right in the way! Nice shot. That guy in the front doesn't look like he has much room to move.

Excellent wild shot !

Thanks!

xcon85...great shot on the buck! Is this cropped, or were you able to get that close with a 200?

Not cropped, just close. The shot was taken at a semi-zoo environment, so to avoid getting the fence in the picture, I had to cut off his antlers.

tonylong wrote in post #8717825 (external link)
I'd say the buck wasn't cropped -- why would you crop a beautiful set of antlers? Meaning he was close -- closer than most of us get to be, and we should be jealous, oh so jealous...

I would never dare. I was close alright, but it was cheating so I don't think it counts. However, in my defense, there are not many deer in downtown Seoul, so...

On a separate note, this was my first time using the 70-200 4L on my (somewhat recently acquired) 5d and BOY does it bring out some life in this lens!

Haven't posted in a bit, but here's one from a recent fishing trip. Didn't have any GNDs or tripod with me, so I apologize for the blown out sky :p.

Hello, all,

Took a nice jaunt earlier today to the Jean Lafitte National Park, located just outside New Orleans, in Marrero, Louisiana. The park is a swamp and wildlife preserve. What makes it so neat is the miles of sturdy low board walks that traverse the park. You are able to view and photograph from eye level, not looking down from an elevated ramp. It was hot today (90 degrees) and there was a lot of overgrowth, so, no alligators were sighted. There is an abundance of the golden orb-weaver spider, also called banana spider. I took a shot that pretty well showed the beautiful web they weave. The sunlight was not so good for illustrating the spider, however, but, another had constructed a web between two tall trees that allowed for a better image of the spider. There are many beautiful tropical plants to be seen. Spring is a better time for seeing them in all their charm.
The lens used was the Canon EF 28-135 IS.

Joe

Hi, Mike,

It really is a neat place. There was more to see, but, as I said it was hot, and,
no birds were seen, nor any alligators. However, it was still fun (walked 3.5 miles looking and it seems not that hard!)

1st spider shot is great.

Thanks, xcon85,

It you get too close they do bite, supposedly a little less painful than a bee sting. But, they do their thing, and, I am a devout coward when it comes to aggravating spiders, mean dogs, and 2 year old children.

I just read your first post, and that's quite interesting because we have the same species of spider over here in South Korea. Different colors though, ours are yellow and black. I suppose its a different subspecies, but we too call them banana spiders. If I'm daring enough tonight I will try to get a shot of one, as by the end of summer they grow to about the size of a softball.

That is quite interesting. The ones I saw today all seemed to measure over an inch of body length, not much more than that. Including the legs they are pretty large.
Hope you can get a good shot of your local variety, looking forward to seeing it.
Joe
